Summer, Summer, Summmer ti-ime! Time to sit back and unwind.. (I thank you Will Smith..)
Hmmm, that sitting back and unwinding thing hasn't quite happened yet, but with the girls having broken up from school, we can now focus on having some Summer fun.
I was pleased to learn the other day, that fellow Devon dweller Michelle from Life Outside London had tagged me in a Summer post. How delightful - thank you Michelle! Now, although Summer is pretty cool and its hot and everyone's all smiley and relaxed, I prefer the bit at the beginning and then the hazy bit at the end. The middle bit seems to fly by in a flash, particularly as down here suddenly it becomes a lot busier, if the sun is out the beaches are buzzing and we have to plan an itinerary each week that incorporates days out, days with friends and family, days in, whilst also trying to slot in all the boring stuff that grown ups still have to do even though the kids are off school.
So, without further ado, here are my responses to the set of questions:
1. What's your favourite thing about summer?
Getting up early and getting out and about when its sunny. Trips to the beach after work and at the weekend - bliss. Swimming in the sea with my family, chips on the seafront (with loads of salt and vinegar), meeting up with friends for drinkies al fresco stylee, car boot sales, barbecued food, watching my garden grow and summer evening walks through our local countryside.
2. Do you have a favourite summer drink?
Daytime, I'd say ice cold Elderflower cordial, or simply sparkling mineral water with loads of ice. I have taken a liking to Teapigs peppermint tea - its lush and really feels like its filtering your insides. I love to whip up a summer fruit smoothie too - with a handful of crushed ice, very refreshing. Alcohol wise, a glass of ice cold Prosecco hits the spot perfectly. Or failing that, a crisp Sauvignon Blanc.
3. Is there a location you prefer to go to in the summer?
I have a few. I love, love, love Cornwall so any chance we get to whip off down the A30 to Kernow then we get on it. Favourite locations include Holywell Bay, St Ives Bay and Bude. Our local beaches, although pebbly are very accessible in 15 minutes so for a quick nip down after work for a sea dip, they are perfect. We tend to head to Seaton because its quieter and the closest, but I LOVE Beer, Sidmouth, Budleigh Salterton and Dawlish and I love to wander round the shops and galleries in Lyme Regis too.
4. Favourite make up look for summer?
Nude as possible. A bit of bronzer to perk up my cheeks, a slither of black eyeliner and some nude or red lippy.
5. Dresses or Skirts?
Either or really, I wear both but I suppose I go for summer dresses on my days off and trips out. I save skirts more for the office.
6. Sandals or Ballet pumps?
Sandals definitely. Feet as airy as possible in this heat! I've just purchased some reef sandals that are so comfy. I live in my flip flops too this time of year.
7. Do you prefer to wear your hair up or down for summer?
I recently went for the chop so I don't have much hair now. I do miss the simplicity of a ponytail. I now tend to just clip my fringe back or wear a head band to keep my hair out of my face and off my sweaty brow.
8. Deep smoky eyes or bold lips?
I do smoke up my eyes for a night out. Day time, easy on the eyes but I do go for red lips.
9. Favourite perfume for summer?
Something light and floral. Marc Jacobs is a fave.
10. Last but not least, favourite music for the summer?
I am currently loving Lissie - Catching a Tiger - and I play it loud in the car. Me and the girls sing along at the top of our voices. Its definitely my album of this Summer.
I also love to relax in the sun to Balearic house or club tracks mixed by Annie Mac. Takes me back to my hols spent on the Island of Ibitzer. Festival faves this year include Haim, Chvrches, Rudimental and Calvin Harris.
In the spirit of carrying this thing on then I would like to tag the lovely Sarah of Sarah Scribbles and fellow new runner Rhiannon from The Sparkly Panda. If you get a chance to join in ladies, I'd love to hear what your summer faves are.
